UPGRADED
COOL CAT PEDALS INTRODUCED
Danelectro’s comprehensive Cool Cat range of effects
pedals is now augmented by the addition of three 'V2' pedal
upgrades, the CO-2 Cool Cat Overdrive, the CTO-2 Transparent
Overdrive and the CF-2 Fuzz.
The new models have many added features and are eagerly anticipated
by pedalheads given the amazing range of sounds already available
from the Cool Cat pedal range.
To
complement the Cool Cat pedal range, don't forget that Danelectro
also offesr a super-neat dedicated Cool Cat pedal board case!
This classy looking case actually holds up to 5 ‘Cats’
and includes a linked DC power supply and all the patch cables
you’ll need.
The V2
CO-2 Overdrive (below, £44.99 rrp) has an ‘Input
Sensitivity’ trimpot which allows the user to customise
the drive to suit the output of their guitar, ie you're able
to match it to single coil or humbucker output levels for
optimum response. It also has a ‘Lo Fi’ DIP switch
that allows the user to choose a second frequency range for
a more raw and unrefined drive tone.
The Drive control responds like a valve amp would, where low
end/mids also increase with gain, saturating and fattening
the overdrive. Brightening the Tone keeps the treble harmonics
happening though. Good interaction between the controls -
knock back the Drive, keep the Volume up and the sound cleans
up to a driving rhythm crunch that’s good and solid,
nice crunching chords.
The
V2 CTO-2 Transparent Overdrive (below, £49.99
rrp) has no less than four DIP switches situated in the base
of the battery compartment, 3 of which allow the user to choose
soft, medium, or hard clipping distortion types (red LED,
blue LED or FET clipping). The fourth DIP switch provides
a +6 dB gain boost; over the standard +6dB clean boost the
pedal offers, that's a stonking +12dB of total gain on tap!
Meantime, the treble and bass boost/cut EQ available on the
middle dual concentric control allows more refinement in the
overdriven sound, like the crunch channel on an amp, where
the sound can be kept more defined.
Turning the Volume right up provides the basic +6dB clean
boost too, ideal, say, for modern nu-country lead guitar sounds
where you want a touch of bite and grit in the sound.

The
V2 Cool Cat Fuzz (below, £54.99 rrp) utilises
the same characteristics of the original CC Fuzz unit, with
not so much a bright or fizzy fuzz but more of an articulate,
liquid sound via the Input Sensitivity Control.
Add Red or Green LED's into the feedback loop via the internal
DIP switches to 'smooth' the distortion and adjust the 'feel'
and the fuzz headroom. A further DIP switch activates output
clipping to 'square off' the waveform offering another well-known
distortion tone.
Try using the Fuzz pedal early in your chain and turning your
guitar's volume down for tonal variety - the big secret of
using a fuzz is to turn the guitar volume down against the
pedal output for those classic overdriven guitar sounds from
the 60’s.

“By far these new Cool Cats have the best tone of anything
we have ever made!" - Danelectro.
