Peter Pollard, the Odyssey Premiere range is already attracting
plenty of attention from progressing students and professional
players alike.
Pollard, who has already very successfully redesigned the successful
Odyssey Debut range for 2011, wanted to introduce a range of
instruments that were built to the highest standards of workmanship,
using superior quality materials and class leading design features
and at a very competitive price point for the player. Pollard
is one of the most sought after instrument designers and repairers
in the UK, with an international reputation to boot, having
worked over the past forty years with leading musicians, military
bands and orchestras as well writing and examining for instrument
repair courses throughout Europe.
The Odyssey Premiere range includes Bb clarinets, saxophones,
flutes, and the full range of brass instruments, including a
baby French horn. Pollard's focus has been to use top quality
materials coupled with a meticulous production process, resulting
in a great sounding instrument that is easy to play and reliable.
High quality is the overriding theme of the Odyssey Premiere
package. All flutes come in a solid wooden case to protect their
delicate key work, and every other Premiere instrument comes
with its own custom designed Zero-gravity carry case finished
in a hard-wearing grey canvas cover. Cases are plush lined to
protect the instrument and also come complete with relevant
accessories. Each has an outside accessory pocket and attachable
shoulder straps allowing the instrument to be carried on your
back – perfect for going to school, college or the concert.
All clarinets and saxophones are supplied with Vandoren reeds
as standard.

The OCL400 Bb Clarinet (£189rrp) is
designed for the progressing student with its hard-wearing
ABS body – which is resistant to changes in temperature
- steel rods and screws for reliability, silver-plated key
work, and high quality Italian pads, along with an adjustable
thumb rest and two barrels. The OCL500 (£499rrp) is
an imported ebony-bodied clarinet featuring tenon rings to
prevent cracking. It offers a wide tonal sound, richer and
warmer than its ABS counterpart, and is thus more suited to
the more advanced student.
A standard Cupronickel bodied silver-plated C flute, the OFL300S
(£289rrp) features 17 closed French style keys, a split-E
mechanism and an offset G with high quality French pads and
springs. Meanwhile, the OFL350C (£199rrp) is ideal for
students with a shorter reach, thanks to its curved head joint.
Featuring 16 open keys, a split-E mechanism and an offset
G, the OFL350C's lip plate and embouchure hole are designed
for ease of blowing, producing a good tone and encouraging
the student to continue playing. Both flutes come complete
with a well presented leatherette covered wooden case and
a fitted padded carry bag.
With professional finishes and a high specification of materials
and components, the four saxophones in the Odyssey Premiere
range are highly suited to advanced students and professionals.
The OSS600 Bb Straight Soprano Saxophone (£399rrp) is
a beautifully finished clear lacquered brass bodied instrument
with an engraved bell, high F# key, high G key, and comes
with both an angled and straight crook.
The OSS650C Bb Curved Soprano Saxophone (£399rrp) also
features a clear lacquered finished brass body with high F#
key and has an easy, open and controlled tonality. The OAS700
Eb Alto Saxophone (£519rrp) features a high F# key and
a rose brass body, bell and neck for a warmer, richer tone.
Finally, the OTS800 Bb Tenor Saxophone (£599rrp) with
brass body and engraved bell easily conveys all the emotion
and musicality of the player with ease and clarity. All four
saxophones feature high quality Italian pads and springs and
are supplied with a mouthpiece, ligature, Vandoren reed, cap,
and accessories including white gloves, cleaning cloth, cork
crease and neck sling.
The OCR100P Bb Pocket Trumpet (£209rrp) is an ideal
instrument for the young student who wants to start on a brass
instrument, or for a seasoned pro who needs a practice instrument
to take out on the road. The Rose brass bell and lead pipe
give a wonderfully warm tone and the handy throw on the main
tuning slide allows fine tuning. The full-sized OCR1100 Bb
Trumpet (£209rrp) also has a Rose brass bell and lead
pipe with nickel outer tuning slides for greater durability
and a double braced main tuning slide. Its valves are made
from the extremely hard-wearing monel metal for excellent
durability, and are carefully designed to give a great response.
The OFG1300
Bb Flugel Horn (£329rrp) has a great response and intonation
coupled with high quality materials. The Rose brass bell and
lead pipe provide a warm, rich mellow sound. With Monel pistons,
3rd slide throw, three water keys and an 11mm bore size this
instrument is ideal for both experienced players and teachers.
Already endorsed by Alan Morrison, conductor of the world
famous Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band, the OCR900 Bb
Silver Plated Cornet (£289rrp) is hard wearing with
its silver plated with gold plated slide and monel valves.
The bottom and top caps have nickel inner slides and there
are triggers on the 1st and 3rd slides. With an excellently
centred tonal response and its polished and professional cosmetic
look the OCR900 should satisfy the need of any developing
player with aspirations.
The OFH1700 Bb baby French Horn (£329rrp) is a smaller
sized horn for the young beginner and features an adjustable
hand rest to aid posture and playing comfort. With a stunningly
good looking Rose brass lead pipe for a warmer tone, and a
clear lacquered brass body, it also has a detachable bell
which makes carrying the instrument around a doddle when stowed
in its custom case – which can be carried backpack style.
Free blowing, with a Rose brass bell for a lovely warm sound,
the OTB1500 Bb Tenor Trombone Outfit (£249rrp) plays
incredibly well and is again made from high quality materials.
Brass bodied with a clear lacquered body for protection and
great looks, it has a Cupronickel slide and comes with a mouthpiece.
