Jack Guitar Cables
Here’s a novel
solution from Snap Jack Cables which has come out of a problem
that anyone who plays guitar or bass onstage will certainly
have experienced at one time or another. With all those signal
cables lying around an often darkened stage, everybody’s
done the old ‘trip over’ at one time or another...
Problem is, this can have serious consequences, with the jack
plug getting wrenched out of its input socket on the amp,
and/or the guitar can get tugged over, maybe resulting in
the old ‘flying detached headstock’ trick as the
guitar bounces off the floor. Well, okay, here's a product
that has been grabbing a lot of attention at music shows around
the world recently - the Snap Jack cable.
There are many, many guitar and signal cables on the market
nowadays, so it takes something special to get any kind of
a reaction. But the Snap Jack cable system really is special,
and when you see it in action, you’ll be convinced.
Basically, you have a guitar cable with two jack bodies, with
detachable insert sections for jack socket entry. The connection
between the jack body and end tip section is secured by super
strength magnets which positively connect the cable's core
wire to its jacks. However, that basic operational description
doesn’t do the Snap Jack concept real justice –
the cables have a very high quality feel to them and the whole
cable system is made from high quality materials. Oxygen Free
Cable is used throughout the range and all contacts are gold
plated for maximum signal transfer efficiency. The jack tip
contact cap section is machined from no less than 2 oz of
solid metal with a nickel plated shell, which means it feels
like (and is) a fairly substantial piece of componentry.
Magnetic Precision Technology Additionally, the tensioning
magnets used in the connection system are of the heavy duty
neodymium variety to ensure normal levels of signal transfer,
as with conventional fixed jack plugs. Plugged in, the connections
are secure, but excessive torsional force will separate the
jack body from the connector, similar to the unit being put
under tension were it to be inadvertently ‘tugged’
by a trip or a kick onstage. And that’s part of the
secret of the Snap Jack concept – if you try to ‘straight
pull’ the Snap Jack apart, you’ll find it hard
to do. But try breaking the Snap Jack at an angle, and –
hey presto! This demonstrates the effective ‘straight
line’ pull of the magnet system, and also with some
added opposite polarity-type strength ‘magic’
in there as well.
No pops or bangs are heard when this happens, the separating
operation is totally silent... Which brings us to the other
USP of the Snap Jack cable system – using pre-installed
extra Snap Jack tip sections allows for quick and easy guitar
lead changes between guitars, with no need to turn your amp
down – simply break the Snap Jack connection at the
guitar, pick up the other guitar and re-connect! No noise,
no screeches, pops or bangs of the ‘tortured amp’
kind.
In use, these cables are tonally as good as any other premium
cable line too, alleviating fears that there might be some
kind of signal degradation because of the magnetic jointing
system. Low frequency reproduction is tight, whilst trebles
ring out nice and clearly, crisp and well defined.
