VINTAGE®
SIGNATURE GUITAR FOR ROBBIE GLADWELL
Following the impressive response to the first signature guitar to be
introduced to the hugely popular Vintage guitar brand, the Geoff Whitehorn
AV6HGW, Vintage designer Trev Wilkinson has also recently been working
with UK-based guitar specialist Robbie 'Dr Robert' Gladwell to produce
– the Robbie Gladwell AV6PRG Signature Vintage Advance!
A talented player and vocalist as well as a highly experienced luthier,
repairer and amp techician, who has worked with all the main guitar
companies as a technician/advisor, Robbie also tours and records as
lead guitarist with Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, who recently supported
the Rolling Stones on some of their European gigs. Robbie has also played
with the rockin' Miss Suzi Q herself, Suzi Quatro, and shared stages
with Albert Lee (Everly Brothers), James Burton (Elvis Presley), Dave
Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Tom Jones, to name but a few.
As a professional
guitarist, Robbie has travelled the world playing guitars, both ultra-expensive
vintage models and the latest state-of-the-art instruments, too. Years
of accumulated guitar knowledge means he know exactly what he expects
from his guitars and how they should sound. And now, after working in
an advisory capacity with Vintage guitars and Trev Wilkinson, Robbie
has received the first model of a guitar he specified for himself from
the Vintage Advance range. Based on the extremely popular Vintage Advance
AV6P twin cutaway 3 x P90-equipped guitar, the 'Robbie Gladwell’
guitar is priced at a more than pocket-friendly £329.
“The Vintage
AV6PRG has been made to my particular specifications and features P90-style
pickups that can be ‘tuned’ to give the classic single coil
sound of the 60’s via the 2nd tone control," explains Gladwell.
"The bridge P90 pickup is slanted to further enhance the classic
tone of this guitar and give brighter, more faithful, single coil characteristics.
I decided to have a tight grain dark rosewood fingerboard fitted on
to a slim maple neck for sustain, playability and enhanced harmonics.
The two piece, centre-jointed American alder body is finished in a classy
Metallic Grey and the revealed scratchplate and pickups are in a complementary
black. With this combination of pickups and body materials, you can
achieve tones ranging from Hendrix and Stevie Ray to Slayer and Metallica!
The flexible circuitry even allows you to produce warm jazz tones too."
“Pickups and hardware are designed by Trev Wilkinson to a very
high standard and give me the sound and reliability that I expect and
demand as a professional player. All this, plus the guitar is available
at a price that is also affordable to the amateur musician.”
