Classical
guitar virtuoso Raymond Burley endorses Santos Martinez classical guitars
Internationally renowned classical guitarist Raymond Burley is endorsing
the acclaimed Santos Martinez range of classic and electro-classic guitars,
choosing the SM650CEA Concierto electro classical cutaway.
With selected close grain solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and
sides, traditional Spanish heel construction, the SM650CEA produces
a super acoustic tone, perfectly amplified by the on-board Fishman Presys
blend transducer system.
Burley is one of Britain's most experienced classical guitarists, having
performed solo concerts, concertos, on film scores, radio, and television
and in virtually every possible guitar ensemble combination. He has
performed at venues worldwide, with artistes as diverse as the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra, Rick Wakeman, and Dame Peggy Ashcroft.
A greatly respected teacher, greatly in demand for master classes and
summer schools, Burley has also directed many guitar festivals. As a
composer, he has many guitar arrangements to his credit, and he is also
an experienced music editor and contributor to magazines such as Acoustic,
where he has his own monthly feature. Burley’s talents have led
him to be selected to premiere new works by composers such as Gilbert
Biberian, Reginald Smith Brindle, and Dudley Moore.
Among his extensive performance schedule, Burley is currently touring
the country as part of the talented quartet 4 Parts Guitar, featuring
Burley alongside John Etheridge, Clive Carroll, and Burley's long-time
friend and collaborator Gordon Giltrap, who was recently honoured with
his own Vintage® signature guitar.
Burley said: “The Santos Martinez 650 I’ve selected is beautiful,
and just ideal for live performances which require an amplified instrument,
and especially with the varied styles performed with my colleagues and
friends in 4 Parts Guitar.
The exceptional tonality of the guitar is faithfully reproduced by the
exceptional Fishman Presys Blend preamp system.
All the power and definition I need is provided by the Fishman Sonicore
under-saddle pickup, and the ambience of the guitar is captured by the
on-board microphone. It's astonishing really just how far instruments
at modest prices have come.”
Dennis Drumm, JHS's Managing Director, commented: “Clearly, we’re
very pleased that a player of Ray’s stature understands just how
much care and attention we pay to producing great instruments, and I’m
delighted that the first step of our partnership will be taking our
650 model to such exalted company. The second step is even more exciting,
as we are currently working with Ray on a signature model classical
guitar, modelled on a now “retired” instrument which has
been his principal performance guitar over many years, and which we
will be releasing mid 2011 at JHS EVENT 2011, where Ray will be performing…”
