Regal Tip Drum Sticks and Brushes

August 2011

Three top UK drummers join the Regal Tip family

The ever-popular American Regal Tip range of sticks and brushes continues to attract top talent from across the world, and now three respected British drummers have signed up to endorse the brand.

Lee Farmery
Hotly tipped to be the next big thing, Brighton-based hard rockers Furyon (featuring drummer Lee Farmery) are preparing to take on the world following the recording of their debut album Gravitas. The band are touring heavily over the summer, including a recent high profile slot at the High Voltage Festival in Victoria Park, London.

Lee is an avid user of Regal Tip sticks. He said: “I like to teach when I'm not touring, as it keeps me on top of my rudiments and chops. The Regal Tip DTHEX Death sticks combine a warm, wood tip sound, with the durability of nylon and, most importantly, take a good hammering!”

Lee Smith
A professional drummer and teacher from Northamptonshire, Lee Smith has been playing drums for two decades. Since graduating from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, he has played in a variety of bands, covering styles from brass and big band to progressive rock, funk and fusion. He has played the Glastonbury festival and has gigged with Yardbirds guitarist Ben King.

A proud user of Regal Tip sticks and brushes, Lee is a big fan of the exclusive tip design of the E Series sticks. He says: "With the E Series stick, Regal Tip have managed to match the tone of a wood tip to the durability of a nylon tip, which is fantastic!" Lee also teaches at his own DRUMSMITH studio as well as for NMPAS (Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Service) in schools.

He says: "The Regal Tip stick finish gives me confidence to use a looser grip without fear of losing the stick,” he says, “and it's also great for teaching a loose grip to students."

Steve Green
Finally, Steve Green is a versatile freelance drummer and percussionist whose diverse workload involves performing and recording in all styles and musical situations. Steve says: "I consider myself lucky – I can go from laying down Hip Hop grooves to orchestral percussion via a jazz gig and West End show all in one week!”

Steve uses all kinds of Regal Tip sticks, brushes and mallets, but especially favours the 205R 5A wood tip models. He says: "They are just ideal for most situations, perfectly weighted and balanced!"
