To launch the project, Kustom engineers first
developed an exclusive new preamp circuit
called Duo-ModTM that utilizes traditional
Volume and Master Volume controls, but that's
where the similarity ends. Here's how it works:
When turning the Volume control down to get
cleaner tones, the Duo-ModTM
circuit
progressively reduces gain in multiple locations
throughout the preamp. The result is stunning
clarity throughout the control's entire range.
In medium-to-high gain ranges, Duo-ModTM
progressively adds gain in multiple locations
throughout the preamp to produce smoking hot
rock tones with punch and clarity that set
it apart from the competition.
A Master Volume Bypass switch lets players
entirely disable the Master from the circuit
to achieve the penetrating tone and headroom
of vintage, non-Master type amplifiers. For
even more power amp gain, a variable Power
Amp Boost control provides up to 10db of footswitchable
volume.

When
you want rich, all-tube amplifier tone that
can be sweet or angry and loud, you need the
100-watt Defender V100 combo. At the heart of
the V100 are EL34 power tubes that provide defined
lows, rich aggressive mids and a sweet top end
that cuts through the mix but is never harsh.
Partnered with two Celestion® Vintage 30
speakers and a cabinet made with void-free Baltic
Birch, you get an amplifier that sings and screams
with unrivaled authority.
The V100 is a two-channel design, each with
its own Master Volume control that lets users
dial in anything from chunky, medium-gain sounds
to scorching, full-on heavy tones. Furthermore,
each Volume control has its own Pull Bright
function that tightens the low-end and extends
the hi-end: perfect for articulate high-gain
tones. Bass, Middle and Treble controls provide
full tone-shaping capabilities.
The V100 also provides luscious spring Reverb
with its own Tone control: a classic Kustom
feature from the 1960s. From spacious to cavernous,
it’s your choice! But then, a step further:
we’ve added Kustom’s famous Tremolo
and Vibrato circuits from the early days. It’s
that unique swampy sound you can’t get
anywhere else!
And when it’s time for the gig or the
studio, the V100’s Speaker-Emulated XLR
Direct Out totally nails the amp’s overall
sound for mixers. A variable, footswitchable
Volume Boost that works on either channel makes
solos – or those quick fills – stand
out in the mix.
A Kustom 3-function footswitch may be used to
switch channels, turn the boost on or off, and
activate effects.

The
Defender™ V5 is an EL-84 powered,
5-watt tube combo with an 8" Kustom
designed speaker, great tones, and a
simple, linear tube circuit. In addition
to the Volume and Tone controls, it
features three speaker jacks for 4,
8 or 16 ohm operation and a 1/4"
pigtail to the internal speaker if the
use of an external speaker is desired.
Great for recording, rehearsal or plugging
in your favorite stomp boxes.

Is there anything more fun than a low-wattage
all-tube amp head that provides authentic,
cranked up tube tone at modest volume
levels? We think not. And did we say “simple?”
The new 5-watt Defender 5H head has just
one knob! (Volume) But the fun lies in
hearing what this knob does as you slowly
turn it up. Starting in the counterclockwise
position, you’ll move through clean
and clear tube tones to progressively
dirtier sounds until this little sucker
is just plain screaming!
This “clean-to-mean” response
isn’t due to any overdrive or distortion
circuit, it’s just the sound of
the single EL84 power tube moving naturally
into increased output distortion. And
it’s great for cranking up and controlling
the action right from your guitar’s
volume control – no channel switching
required!
