Dishan Abrahams
Session Bassist
(Kylie Minogue/ Sugababes/
Christophe
Willem / The London Horns)
"The Vintage VJ96 is a great sounding,
well built bass that has a playability well beyond any
other fretless in it's price range. Like all the vintage
products I've tried, the VJ96 has to be played to be
fully appreciated, it's definitely gonna surprise some
people as it has done with me!" – Dishan
Dishan Abrahams is a London based bass player currently
playing with pop group, the Sugababes and mutli-million
album selling French pop star, Christophe Willem.
At age 15 Dishan swapped his saxophone for a bass to
fill a spot in his church band and after just two months
playing bass was chosen to become the bass player for
“Youth Alive”, an Australian organisation
which organises events for youth, touring his state
of WA and playing to audiences of thousands every gig,
he also began his recording career at this time.
Dishan learnt young what is required in the studio and
what it takes to hold down a big live show.
After graduating from high school, Dishan was accepted
into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts
(WAAPA) to study Jazz. WAAPA is the most prestigious
music school in Australia and students travel from all
over the country to be part of the course.
During his first year, Dishan began cutting his teeth
on the local gig scene and by his second year of study
was one of busiest bass players in town, regularly working
7 or 8 gigs a week and playing with the best local players.
During his third year of study, Dishan was offered a
contract with Australian record label, Scope Music,
as part of his band, “the jive express”,
a 10 piece, Jamiroquai-ish funk band.
Being that this also meant being the house bass player
in Scope studio he felt it was an offer too good to
refuse
and chose to leave his studies to see where this path
would take him.
With “the jive express”, Dishan recorded
two albums, completed eight Australian tours, two New
Zealand tours and also recorded three albums with other
Scope Music artists.
Dishan’s next original project, “Outfit
Faux”, had it’s first gig in a statewide
band competition, which it won, and went on to be featured
in Rolling Stone magazine and play the “Big Day
Out” festival, they also recorded at Kingdom Studios
in with Dom Monteleone whose credits include Jay Z,
the Black Eyed Peas and Empire of the Sun. “Outfit
Faux” then relocated to London and began gigging
and recording in their own studio near Tower Bridge.
Dishan played bass, engineered, co wrote, and co produced
all “Outfit Faux’s” recordings in
London.
