John Parr
John, who began his career in the North East band Ponders
End, relocated to the States and soon found himself
catapulted to fame when he released his debut solo single
‘Naughty Naughty” which hit the USA top
thirty and the top slot of the USA mainstream rock chart,
and began an arena tour supporting Toto. When the tour
ended, he received a call from David Foster, one of
the worlds most successful record producers, who wanted
him to record a song for the film ‘St Elmo’s
Fire’. Parr and Foster co-wrote “St Elmo’s
Fire (Man In Motion) in honor of wheelchair athlete
and activist Rick Hansen. The song became a number one
hit around the world and gained a number of awards including
a Grammy nomination. Parr went on to tour with Heart,
Tina Turner and The
Beach Boys, as well as writing songs for other artist
such as the Who’s Roger Daltrey, Tom Jones and
The Monkees.
“I’d
been doing some writing and recording with Jim Cregan,
and he brought along this fantastic Vintage guitar -
not only did it look and sound like a genuine 60’s
or 70’s model, it also had this superb, out-of-phase
tone in the centre position. I just knew I had to get
hold of one for myself!” – John.
After
a break away from the music industry to spend more time
with his family, John has recently realised a lifelong
dream by opening a world-class recording studio at his
home in the South Yorkshire countryside near Doncaster.
"Somewhere in Yorkshire" studios provides
not only a superb recording facility for any musician
or artist, but has perhaps the most unique live room
of any studio in the world, looking more like the reception
room of a country manor house, than the usual sterile
studio environment. The only clues as to its true purpose
are the grand piano, the Hammond B3 and the two minstrel
galleries, one of which is accessed by the ‘Eleven
to Heaven’ – a neon lit staircase with the
names of 11 of rocks greatest guitar heroes carved in
gold leaf.
