Alan Morrison, Musical Director of the Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band.

After a playing career spanning over 40 years that has included long spells as Principal Cornet player of world famous bands such as Brighouse & Rastrick and Grimethorpe Colliery, Alan Morrison is now Musical Director of the Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band.

During his playing career, Alan has won literally hundreds of individual awards and led his bands to many national and international contest successes. Several ‘Best Soloist’ awards were achieved and Alan has won the best Principal Cornet Award at the Brass In Concert Championships on no fewer than eight occasions, including an incredible five times in succession.

As a soloist, conductor or adjudicator Alan has appeared in all parts of the world, visiting Australia and New Zealand several times, plus the USA and many European countries as well as appearing week in, week out in the UK.

He has adjudicated at most National Championships across the world and featured as soloist in hundreds of gala concerts and festivals, including the BBC’s Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

An experienced ABRSM examiner, Alan was appointed Musical Director to Brighouse
in late 2006 and has since enjoyed continued success with the band, winning several contests and establishing the band at the forefront of brass band entertainment and innovation.
